Clarity Shot #31
-What do you mean “you’ve started coaching”… didn’t you work in comms?
She asks me with an intrigued look, slowly sipping her coffee.
We haven’t seen each other in a while… and, yes, this doesn’t make sense, at first…
At first, they seem separate.
Different career paths, different energy, different attitude, different flow, different training required to do them well.
A different way of showing up.
That’s what becomes visible at first.
But once you look deeper, that “different” starts to feel familiar… more like a new chapter of the same book, than a different genre.
You see, below the surface of those differences lie many common things:
Curiosity
Focused attention
A passion for stories…
Stories of achievements, experiments, failure, getting back up.
Stories of what needs to happen inside, so we can create broader happier lives.
Stories of patterns we let unfold, in our lives and in our language.
Stories that shape our lives in invisible, but strong boundaries…
You see, the stories we tell ourselves about what we can do, and about what we cannot do…
They cast bonds on our ability to rise up, do better, dare more…
They keep us hostage in mindsets that are not always serving us anymore….
They question our ability to take action outside those stories…
They may even say “Who am I to.. speak up, walk off the beaten path, grasp that opportunity, dare to dream, believe it can be so much better???”
The better question is: who are you not to?
Who do you think you are, so those big goals are out of reach for you?
What do you tell yourself to stay captive in that small story that limits what you can do, that cuts your dreams short?
To grow, we need to out-grow your stories…
So instead of the classical achievements list for 2022, let’s make a different list!
This week’s #ClarityShot invites you to take your time, put on some good music, and reflect on:
what stories brought you energy, drive and passion to make things happen, in 2022?
What did you tell yourself on the path to your greatest achievements?
What did you tell yourself when things were falling apart?
What did you tell yourself when you got bruised or hurt, and you still decided to get up and try again?
What stories kept you going and what stories kept you stuck?
✨ What different stories you need to start shaping, to support what you want to create in 2023? ✨
Is it a story about…
… being loved for all that you are, flaws included?
… new opportunities that could bloom in your path, if you’re open to see them?
… assuming positive intent in others and in yourself, so you can reach out to shared humanity, instead of bracing yourself for conflict or challenge?
… that you deserve to be happy and struggle less…?
… taking that leap of faith?
What will these stories enable you to create, going forward?
